Restrepo is the feature length documentary by Sebastian Junger and Tim Hetherington. The film follows the Men of Battle Company 2nd of the 503rd Infantry Regiment 173rd Airborne Brigade Combat Team on their fifteen month deployment in the Korengal Valley of Afghanistan.
The film is a companion to the book War, also by Sebastian Junger (a recommended read). Junger and Hetherington imbedded with Battle Company for the deployment. The film makes three strong initial impressions:
- The value of interpersonal relationships- between soldiers, civilians, soldiers and civilians, and the quieter, though no less dependent bond between these people and the storytellers.
- Junger and Hetherington took no moment for granted. This openness lends itself to a documentary with surprising sensitivity acting alongside the jarring sense of this being someone's daily reality.
- The Impression of War, the Imprint of it.

Co-filmmaker Tim Hetherington was killed last week in Misrata while covering the Libyan conflict. The same blast killed photographer Chris Hondros and wounded Guy Martin, also a photographer. We thank these storytellers for their work, and for not blinking.
